SYDNEY UNIVERSITY MEN'S SQUASH CLUB

TRAINING

Members of the Squash Club can train for free at the Manning Squash Courts during the following days and times:-

Tuesday to Friday:  5:00pm - 7:00pm

Saturday:  8:30am - 5:00pm

During weeknights after 7:00pm the courts are generally unavailable because competition is being played. At all other times, the courts can be booked at the Arena Sports Centre.

Training usually involves playing a match with an opponent. Alternatively, practicing routines and drills either with a partner or alone is an excellent way to improve racket skills.

Having good fitness is necessary for playing good squash, especially in the higher grades. In most competition matches between two players of similar standard, it is usually the fitter player that wins. Including a fitness training program as part of squash training will help to improve a player's squash game. This program should include long distance running to improve endurance, 400 m sprints to build strength for long rallies, and 100 m sprints to increase speed around the court.
